Our Path As Doulas
Who are Sandy Travis and Wayne Beamer?
How we have lived has prepared us for the next stage of our lives as end-of-life transition navigators, better known as death doulas.
For two decades, we have helped families and friends manage the chaotic journeys at the end of their lives. Whether it was Sandy’s Mom with a broken femur, a friend who received a cancer diagnosis very few survive or a senior in the throes of dementia with no family to support her, we recognized a need and stepped in to support them.
This support included everything from making funeral arrangements and working with nursing home/memory care providers to sitting quietly in vigil as our family member began their journey to what comes next…
These life transitions happened so often that we wondered why us?
Our life’s mission as end-of-life transition doulas became much clearer when we began attending a monthly Death Cafe group hosted by ABODE Contemplative Care for the Dying in San Antonio. The following year, we completed training sponsored by ABODE and the International Doula Life Movement (IDLM) to become Certified End-of-Life Doulas and Certified Life Planning Specialists (Advance Care Planners).
Helping and supporting each other during life transitions makes us stronger. Our goal as a team is to guide you and your family in creating an end-of-life transition that is tailored to your unique needs and wishes with a focus on love, kindness and meaning so you can live a good death that is free from avoidable distress and suffering.
To that end, we offer planning options, step-by-step processes, resources and information that will help you make the right and best decisions for you and your loved ones. No matter what you decide, we are honored to support and serve you as Life Transition Doulas. How can we help you?
